    The Korean Sculptress Association is founded with Kim Chungsook as president. It is established with the purpose of promoting the development of Korean women sculptors.     The twenty-third National Art Exhibition (Gukjeon) is held twice a year; in the spring (National Museum of Modern Art (now MMCA), May 2-31), and fall (MMCA, October 2-31). The spring National Art Exhibition is composed of non-figurative paintings and sculptures, crafts, photography, and architecture, while the fall National Art Exhibition is composed of figurative paintings and sculptures, calligraphy, and Eastern painting on the theme of the Four Gentlemen (plum-blossom, orchid, chrysanthemums, and bamboo). From the twenty-third Gukjeon, awards are given by category following institutional reform.

    The ’74 Exhibition of Modern Korean Sculpture (National Museum of Modern Art, Deoksugung (now MMCA), June 10-30) is held. This exhibition is the first event of the Modern Korean Art Exhibition series, designed to establish the history of Korean modern art. It is held in the fields of crafts, Eastern painting, Western painting, calligraphy, architecture, and photography until 1978.

    The Third Space and Time Group (ST) exhibition (National Museum of Modern Art, Deoksugung (now MMCA), June 21-27) is held. A public seminar is held at the Seoul Press Center under the theme “Historicity and Anti-Historicism in Art,” with eleven participants including Kim Yongmin, Kim Hongjoo, Nam Sanggyun, Sung Neungkyung, Song Jeonggi, Lee Kunyong, Lee Yil, Yeo Un, Choi Wongeun, Choi Hyoju and Hwang Hyunwook.

    After studying printmaking in New York for seven years, Park Rehyun returns to Korea and holds PARK, RE HYUN Printing Exhibition (Shinsegae Gallery, Seoul, June 24-30). A total of 64 prints and tapestries, created between 1970 and 1973, are exhibited.

    Myeong-dong Gallery launches the art magazine Hyeondae Misul (Contemporary art), but it is discontinued after the second issue.

    The Sixth International Festival of Painting Cagnes-sur-Mer (Sato Museum of Art, July 6-September 30) is held. The exhibition features three korean artists including Lee Dongyoub, Ha Chonghyun and Hur Hwang. Park Seo-Bo serves as commissioner for Korean artists.

    The Nineth International Biennial Exhibition of Prints in Tokyo (National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, November 16-January 12, 1975) is held. The exhibition features three korean artists including Kim Kulim, Lee Ufan and Chung Chanseung. Exhibited at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (January 21–March 2, 1975) as part of a touring exhibition.

    Hosted by Dong-a Ilbo newspaper, the No Soohyeon Retrospective (Seoul Press Center, November 27-December 7) is held.

    The First Infinity [Muhandae] Exhibition (Misulhoegwan (now ARKO Art Center), December 1-7) is held. The exhibition features six artists including Kang Kukjin, Kim Gidong, Kim Jeongsu, Lee Taehyun, Choi Boonghyun and Han Youngsup. They form a group called Infinity for a new spiritual adventure.

    The First December Exhibition (American Culture Center, Seoul, December 5-10) is held. The exhibition features twelve artists including Kim Beonyong, Kim Jungheun, Kim Changseop, Min Joungki, Park Gwanuk, Park Bochan, Shin Kyoungho, Lim Oksang, Won Seungduk, Choi Namjin, Choi Insu and Hwang Tae-gap.

    Hosted by the Korean Avant Garde Association (AG), the First Seoul Biennial (National Museum of Modern Art (now MMCA), December 12-19) is held. A body of eleven-member steering committee advise operating the Biennale and fifty-eight artists are invited.     The Second Indépendants (National Museum of Modern Art, Deoksugung (now MMCA), December 20-28) is held. A public competition is held to nominate artists for participation in the 13th São Paulo Biennale, the 7th Cagnes International Painting Festival, and the 2nd Sydney Biennale in 1975. A total of 151 artists participate.

    Kim Kichang, Min Kyoung-Kap, Pak Nosoo, Suh Seok, Lee Yootae, Chang Woosoung, Chang Unsang participate in the Seven Eastern Painters (Growrich Gallery, Seoul, December 17–28).

    The National Museum of Modern Art (now MMCA) begins publishing the Hanguk hyeondae misulsa (The History of Contemporary Korean Art) series, with the first volume published on sculpture. The volume on crafts is published in 1975, Western painting in 1976, Eastern painting in 1977, architecture and photography in 1978, and calligraphy in 1981.
