A private art museum that opened in 1995 in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Before the construction of the exhibition hall, the museum held its first exhibition, Ssack, at an old hanok yard. In 1998, Art Center Sonje established a transdisciplinary venue, equipped with an exhibition hall, lounge, and theater. Art Sonje has staged significant solo exhibitions for Lee Bul, Oh Heinkuhn, Joo Jaehwan, Suh Doho, Lim Minouk, Chung Seoyoung, Oh Inhwan, Bahc Yiso, and Koo Jeong-a. From 2012 to the present day, the center has held the Real DMZ Project on an annual basis. The project involves exhibitions, residencies, seminars, and archival work based on research on the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) of the Korean Peninsula and the neighboring regions.
